About Me
WHO
A teacher with a love of the natural world and a passion to move students beyond learning to read in order to discover that they love to read.
PATH
Mrs. Schaffer started out at the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Conservation and Management then, while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua became interested in education. She came to California after the Peace Corps and began teaching 6th grade in the Bay Area at an English/Spanish duel-immersion elementary school eventually moving to Northern California where she taught Adult Ed English, ELD (English Language Development), Kindergarten, and 2nd grade. She has jumped down the rabbit hole of technology in a Master’s Program in innovative learning and is exploring the use of e-readers to motivate struggling and reluctant readers.
CURRENTLY
Mrs. Schaffer is currently teaching 2nd grade at Calistoga Elementary School (CES). As part of the CES team she aided the school in achieving National Blue Ribbon status and becoming a California Distinguished School.
